Key highlights of the 46th International Film Festival of India 2015.

The 46th International Film Festival of India, that began in Goa on November 20, draws to close today with a Closing Ceremony paying a musical tribute to the spirit of Cinema and screening of the Closing Film ‘The Clan’ from Argentina.

62nd National Film Awards presented
by the President of India on 3rd May, 2015

The President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee today conferred National film awards for the year 2014 in various categories at the 62nd National Film Awards Function held at Vigyan Bhawan here. Minister for Finance, Corporate Affairs, and Information & Broadcasting, Shri Arun Jaitley and MoS I&B Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore were also present on the occasion. In his address, the President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee said “We live in a rapidly changing world to which the film industry will have to adjust and adapt. Technology has brought down the costs of production and expanded the mechanisms of dissemination. Still cameras and cell phones that record video can be now edited on a home computer and uploaded on the net. Promotion and marketing of films have now taken on a new avatar with substantial marketing happening on social media – news of a good film now spreads quicker on twitter than by word of mouth. I also understand 2014 saw the launch of four film and entertainment focused investment funds”.

62nd National Film Festival 2015
(May 4th - 13th, 2015, Sirifort Auditorium-II.)

The 62nd National Film Festival 2015 is being oganized by the Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting from May 4th-13th, 2015 at Siri Fort Auditorium Complex, New Delhi.All the National Award winning films for the year 2014 will be screened for the Public during the festival. 28 Feature Films and 23 Non-Feature Films will be screened during the 10 days festival.

The festival opened with the Marathi feature film “Court” in the gracious presence of Director of the film Court, Shri Chaitanya Tamhane and Producer of the film Shri Vivek Gomber on 4th May, 2015 at 4:00pm at Siri Fort Auditorium- II.

The “Indian Panorama Film Festival”, showcasing the films selected in the Indian Panorama, 2014 as part of the 45th International Film Festival of India, recently concluded in New Delhi. The festival was organized from 31st January-8th February, 2015 at Siri Fort Auditorium by Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. 26 Feature Films and 15 Non-Feature Films were screened during the 8 days festival.

The festival was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of State for Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore (Retd.), AVSM, in the presence of Shri Bimal Julka Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Director Shri Ananth Narayan Mahadevan & Actor Shri Vinay Pathak.

The Festival is jointly organized by Directorate of Film Festivals and National Film Archive of India in collaboration with Delhi International Arts Festival from 27-29, August 2015 in New Delhi. The films have been restored by NFAI and are being showcased for the first time.

FRAGRANCES FROM THE NORTH EAST 2015

Siri Fort Auditorium Complex, New Delhi

Second Edition of North East Film Festival was organized by the Directorate of Film Festival (DFF) in the Siri Fort Auditorium complex from 21th to 23rd August 2015. North East Film Festival worked as a tool bringing the ‘Seven Sisters’ under one roof. It turned out to be a great opportunity for people of Delhi to get closest possible to North- East Indian art and Culture via films. This year’s theme was “Fragrances from the North East”, a three- day cinematic extravaganza witnessed the huge turnout and some of the best artwork from North Eastern Cinema.

The festival was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore (Retd.) AVSM & Hon’ble Minister of State for Youth & Sports Ministry Shri Sarbananda Sonowal in the gracious presence of Shri Bimal Julka, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting & Director, Directorate of Film Festivals Shri C. Senthil Rajan with distinguished directors Shri Aribam Syam Sharma, Smt. Manju Borah, actor Shri Adil Hussain, star anchors Soma Laishram (Manipur) and Merlvin Mukhim (Meghalaya) with various other eminent names from North East Film Industry.

India at Cannes 2015

Cannes, May 14, 2015: The Hon’ble Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (Retd), AVSM inaugurated the India Pavilion at Cannes Films Festival today. Speaking at the packed inaugural session of the India Pavilion, Hon’ble Minister said, “new Government at the Centre is certainly more decisive and focused and is constantly working towards taking India to higher levels of growth which is inclusive. The government is channelizing that objective through campaigns like ‘Make in India’ and ‘Skill India’ and realizes that the film industry is an important part of these campaigns given its tremendous potential towards job creation”.

India committed to combat film piracy and protect copyrights
India is committed to support a copyright regime that promotes creativity and to take effective steps to combat piracy of films and music. The recently amended Indian Copyright Act is progressive, enhances equity and will provide impetus to creativity. This was reiterated by Shri Uday Kumar Varma, Secretary, Information and Broadcasting while addressing a seminar as part the inaugural session of a festival of Indian films to commemorate the centenary of Indian cinema at WIPO, Geneva on Monday, the 3rd Dec, 2012.
