Film Promotion Fund
Started in 2016, the film promotion fund aims to provide financial assistance to filmmakers to promote their films at international film festivals across the world. Film Promotion fund would provide financial aid to the movie selected in any competition section of an International Film Festival of repute or India's official nomination to the Academy Awards under Foreign Film Category for promotional activities.
The fund value for films being selected to represent India at Oscars is Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore. In addition to this, various funds have been allotted for films representing India at international film festivals, including Cannes, Toronto International Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, Locarno International Film Festival. Indian films being screened at other festivals like Sundance, Rotterdam, and Berlin also qualify for financial assistance.
The film promotion fund came as a Government's efforts to project India as a soft power and Filming Destination has been a win-win situation so far, in terms of attracting global stakeholders from various quarters of the film industry to India as well as Indian films, expertise and talent being accepted globally at international festivals.
